Mature skin

Definition: Skin that shows signs of ageing, such as a lack of tone, sagging skin, more accentuated wrinkles, a lack of elasticity, pigment spots due to the irregular production of melanin, loss of volume in different areas of the body, difference in complexion radiance, sagging skin, skin dryness, etc. This phenomenon is explained by a decrease in fibroblasts, which are responsible for producing collagen and elastin. From the age of 25, our skin loses 1% of the collagen initially stored in the different areas of the body. In the five years following menopause, due to hormonal changes, the loss of collagen reaches 30%. The level of hyaluronic acid naturally present in the skin also decreases over the years, thus reducing the density and hydration of the skin.
Internal and external causes: The natural ageing process (the effects of the passing of time), genetics, sun exposure, tobacco consumption, pollution, hormonal imbalance (menopause).
How to reduce or eliminate: Dermatological and aesthetic procedures (chemical peeling with trichloroacetic acid, injection of hyaluronic acid, pulsed light, lipolifting, injection of botulinum toxin, fractional laser).
Preventative steps to take: Apply sun protection daily; avoid exposure to the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; help your skin fight external aggressions and oxidative stress with formulations based on active ingredients with antioxidant properties (vitamin C, vitamin E, retinol, ferulic acid, resveratrol, etc.); apply a moisturizer adapted to your skin type on a daily basis; always remove make-up every evening; use skincare based on active ingredients to slow down the appearance of the signs of ageing (retinol, peptides, bakuchiol, etc.) which will stimulate the production of collagen; cleanse your skin carefully on a daily basis; avoid or minimise aggravating factors such as tobacco and regular alcohol consumption; eat a balanced diet; sleep well; engage in regular physical activity.
