Despite its numerous benefits for the skin, sea water, when not rinsed off, can cause skin discomfort: itching, risk of infection, dryness... In this article, find our advice on how to enjoy the virtues of sea water without damaging your skin.
How to take care of your skin after a sea swim?
The skin after a sea swim.
Sea water possesses numerous benefits for the skin. However, if you do not rinse your skin after a sea swim, it can become dry and exhibit symptoms of itching and tightness.
Furthermore, a study on the link between sea bathing and skin microbiota has proven that exposure to seawater removes the skin's protective bacteria, thereby increasing the risk of skin infection. Indeed, these bacteria play a crucial role in protecting the skin from pathogenic agents. Moreover, this risk is even greater as seawater is likely to deposit potentially pathogenic bacteria on the skin. The study has shown that pathogenic bacteria remain on the skin for at least 24 hours after swimming.

Therefore, in order to reap the benefits of seawater without the inconveniences it can cause for your skin, it is essential to follow these good practices:
Cleansing the skin:
Once you have finished bathing, immediately rinse your body's skin with clear water to remove salt and sand from your skin. Then use a pH-neutral shower gel or a shower oil, which will be gentler on your skin. With 2.5% of vitamin E (INCI: "Tocopherol") and F (INCI: Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid") as well as squalane and bitter almond extract, our lipid-replenishing shower oil deeply nourishes the skin and reduces feelings of tightness, while cleaning it thanks to the gentle, biodegradable and naturally derived surfactants present in the formula.
For your facial skin, opt for the moisturising cleansing milk. It contains hyaluronic acid and coconut oil, which are hydrating and nourishing actives. It is also composed of chamomile extract, known for its calming virtues. Thus, it restores the hydrolipidic barrier and soothes irritations.
Exfoliating one's skin :
The build-up of salt, sand and sunscreen clogs the skin's pores leading to the formation of blemishes. We recommend exfoliating your skin 1 to 2 times a week. For the body, use our nourishing body scrub which mechanically exfoliates the skin due to the presence of apricot kernel grains. The sweet almond oil nourishes the skin and strengthens the skin barrier. It also contains super lavandin essential oil which has interesting anti-inflammatory properties against pathogenic bacteria present in seawater.
For the face, our peeling mask digs deep into the pores, renews the skin and brightens the complexion thanks to a triple exfoliation: chemical (PHA), mechanical (cranberry powder) and enzymatic (mulberry acid, blackcurrant and raspberry).
Hydration:
On clean and dryskin, apply moisturising cream all over your body to restore the hydrolipidic barrier that has been damaged during bathing. Our body nourishing cream contains 10% of squalane, which, with a structure similar to sebum, provides lipids to combat skin dryness and restore the hydrolipidic film that can thus play its main role: preventing the water present in the body from evaporating. It is also composed of shea butter which has nourishing and soothing properties, as well asplum oil known for its softening, nourishing and antioxidant virtues.
We also offer amoisturising body cream with 10 ingredients. Its minimalist formula hydrates and nourishes all skin types, even the most sensitive, thanks to thecoconut oilandvegetable glycerin. Don't forget to also hydrate your facial skin! Ournourishing face creamenriched with moisturising and lipid-replenishing active ingredients (hyaluronic acid, shea butter, squalane, plum oil) restores skin suppleness and reduces feelings of tightness.
Bonus : 1 to 2 times a week, we recommend you to carry out a hydrating mask in order to provide all the necessary elements for the proper functioning of your skin. Our hydrating mask increases the skin's hydration. It contains tremella extract, which encloses a natural hyaluronic acid of low molecular weight, allowing it to penetrate deeply into the skin. Rich in polysaccharides and fatty acids, the tremella extract forms a microscopic film on the skin's surface and improves the impermeability of the skin barrier. It also consists of aloe vera gel, which hydrates and soothes the skin.
