Utilised in gastronomy and perfumery, plum oil is also a skin ally due to its molecular richness. It is abundant in fatty acids, including essential fatty acids such as omega-6, as well as vitamin E and sterols, antioxidant compounds. Let's focus on the virtues of this vegetable oil when applied topically.

The essence of plum oil in a nutshell.
The exact origin of the plum tree remains somewhat unclear even today. However, it is confirmed that the Ente Plum tree, which provides vegetable plum oil (I.N.C.I.: "Prunus Domestica Seed Oil") is a result of hybridisation between two different species: Prunus spinosa and Prunus cerasifera. This origin explains the meaning of its name as 'Ente' means 'to graft'!
The extraction of plum oil is carried out by cold pressing the kernels found within the fruit stones. Initially, the stones are dried and shelled to extract the kernels. These are then ground and machine-pressed to produce an oil, which is subsequently filtered to remove solid residues and impurities. This extraction method allows for the preservation of all the essential components of the plum.
Plum oil for skin protection and prevention of ageing.
Rich in vitamin E (content > 600 mg/kg), plum oil is an excellent antioxidant care that combats skin ageing induced by oxidative stress. To recall, this phenomenon is characterised by an overproduction of reactive oxygen species, also known as free radicals, when cells are faced with stress. The sources of stress are numerous, the main ones being UV exposure, pollution, smoking, a diet too rich in fats and/or sugars. Free radicals are particularly unstable molecules due to their single electron. They tend to react with other molecules to form an electron pair, and then cause damage to cells, DNA and proteins in the body such as collagen and elastin. They are notably involved in lipid peroxidation, a degradation reaction of the constituents of cell membranes. Ageing is thus accelerated and wrinkles deepen on the skin's surface. Plum oil is therefore a choice ally to prevent skin ageing and fight against the appearance and/or accentuation of wrinkles.
Prune oil for taking care of dry and dehydrated skin.
This vegetable oil is particularly rich in a monounsaturated fatty acids such as theoleic acid (also known as omega 9), present between 65 to 75%. Although synthesised by the body, external supply (topically) of omega 9 is necessary to strengthen the skin's protective barrier. Indeed, these fatty acids constitute the hydrolipidic film, the layer that protects the skin from aggressions and maintains its hydration level. These are lipids that are part of the composition of sebum, a substance naturally secreted by the body to counteract skin dryness. Moreover, plum oil also contains omega-6, known for their softening properties. In addition, this vegetable oil is light and quickly penetrates the skin. It thus maintains its hydration while leaving a pleasant frangipane scent.
