5 tips for taking care of your skin in winter.

Heating, low temperatures, icy winds, temperature fluctuations, high humidity... we tend to forget that in winter too, the epidermis is severely tested and this can have consequences on its appearance: dull complexion, skin dryness, irritations, redness, superficial chapping... It's no longer enough to just hydrate the skin, it's the entire daily skincare routine that needs to be adapted to the season. Here are 5 tips for a more protected and resilient skin during winter.

Topics:

1. Tailoring one's makeup removal and cleansing routine.

Even in winter, removing makeup and cleansing is as essential as it is throughout the rest of the year. However, during this winter period, the face can easily become dehydrated and foaming makeup removers can strip the skin of its protective film. Therefore, it needs nourishment. It is then necessary to reconsider the makeup removal and cleansing routine in accordance with the climate.

A makeup remover in the form of a balm or oil, richer in lipids, is then recommended to nourish the epidermis and limit damage. For the cleansing step, creamier cleansing milks contain moisturising agents (hyaluronic acid, glycerine...) and soothing agents (chamomile hydrosol, bisabolol...).

Similarly, if you tend to have dry skin after showering, particularly in winter, favour the use of a shower cream with a rich and enveloping texture or a shower oil with a creamy texture. They will gently cleanse the skin, while nourishing it and relieving feelings of discomfort.

Alter your makeup removal and cleansing routines solely based on your preferences and needs.

Our product recommendations:

  • Non-greasy, thecleansing oil with 7 ingredients contributes to gently removing makeup from the face while intensely nourishing due to its composition. Thesweet almond oil (INCI name: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil) provides the skin with a soft touch, while protecting it from external discomforts, improving its appearance and soothing it sustainably.

  • Our facial cleansing milk, rich in hyaluronic acid and coconut oil, gently removes impurities from the skin without damaging its protective hydrolipidic film, thanks to the mild and non-drying surfactants of natural origin it contains (INCI name: Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate). It leaves the skin clear and soothed thanks to the benefits of theRoman chamomile floral water (INCI name: Chamomilla Recutita Flower Water).

2. Strengthen the skin barrier.

To retain water in the deeper layers of the skin and counteract the effects of cold, it is necessary to strengthen the skin's hydrolipidic barrier. Prioritise treatments containing humectants or emollients, such as the hyaluronic acid, the glycerine, the polyglutamic acid, the aloe vera, the squalane, ceramides... When hydrated, the skin is more supple and softer. On certain rough areas (elbows, knees), you can apply vegetable oils like the argan oil, the sweet almond oil, the plum oil..., renowned for their nourishing, protective, regenerative and restructuring properties.

Our product recommendations:

  • Lightweight, vegan and rapidly absorbing, the hydrating serum penetrates the epidermis and seals in skin hydration, leaving the skin soft, fresh, supple and luminous. It contains a blend of hyaluronic acid of two molecular sizes (3%) (INCI name: Sodium Hyaluronate) that hydrate the different layers of the epidermis and protect it against premature ageing, along with a dose of pro-vitamin B5 (2%) (INCI name: Panthenol) and aquaxyl (1%) (INCI name: Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol).

  • The plumping serum is enriched with a matrix of hydrating agents, notably the polyglutamic acid composed of large molecules (3%), capable of retaining 5 times more water than hyaluronic acid in order to prevent water loss and prolong hydration by creating a film that traps water on the skin. It also contains in its formula red algae extract (INCI name: Sodium Carrageenan).

  • Non-greasy, non-comedogenic and fast-absorbing, the nourishing serum is composed of 100% vegetable squalane derived from olive oil, a highly moisturising emollient naturally found in the skin. Suitable for all skin types, this hydrocarbon prevents moisture loss by repairing the hydrolipidic barrier, offers antioxidant protection and reduces feelings of tightness.

  • Our night serums are a blend of vegetable oils, plant extracts and essential oils. Jojoba oil, papyrus cells, immortelle essential oil.... they work to strengthen the skin's protective barrier, stimulate cellular activity and repair the skin overnight. Each skin type has a serum that suits it.

3. Increase hydration of your skin.

All skin types are not immune to the effects of cold weather. You might need to change your moisturizer if you feel that the one you're currently using isn't sufficient. While lighter formulas are generally suitable for summer, a richer, more nourishing formula with a creamier texture may be more necessary to create a protective layer against external aggressions and provide comfort in winter conditions.

Indeed, under the influence of cold, blood circulation slows down on the skin's surface: on one hand, the blood vessels in the dermis dilate and contract successively, systematically alternating between hot and cold, and vice versa. On the other hand, the body prioritizes blood flow to vital organs, reducing the blood supply reaching the skin. Additionally, in cold weather, sebum production also slows down. With the abrupt changes in temperature between a heated home and stepping out into winter air, and the drier or more humid air in winter, the hydrolipidic film also deteriorates, even though it is supposed to protect the skin from external aggressions and maintain the skin's suppleness and hydration qualities. The result? The skin becomes dehydrated, reddens, feels tight, and becomes uncomfortable.

The skin on our bodies also needs to be hydrated daily after showering. The friction with clothing can further dry it out and cause irritation. You may then choose a body care product in the form of a balm, cream or milk based on active ingredients with lipid-replenishing and repairing properties such as coconut oil, shea butter, argan oil...

Not all skin types may feel the need to change their moisturising cream. This choice depends solely on your personal experience. For instance, oily skin types might find it too rich.

Our product recommendations:

  • Rich and non-greasy, the nourishing face cream helps to replenish, repair and comfort the skin with a blend of ingredients known for their nourishing and hydrating properties such as hyaluronic acid, squalane and the shea butter (INCI name: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter). The skin becomes softer, more supple, more radiant, the dehydration fine lines are reduced and the formula respects the skin's microbiome.

  • When it comes to body hydration, you have options. Light and non-greasy, the 10-ingredient body moisturising cream helps to retain all the skin's moisture by laying a light protective veil on the epidermis with a simplified formula. It notably contains coconut oil, glycerine and pentylene glycol.

4. Continue to exfoliate your skin.

Even in winter, the skin needs to be exfoliated. Indeed, a dull complexion and blemishes can appear due to the accumulation of dead skin cells. To boost blood circulation and stimulate cellular renewal, use a gentle scrub to exfoliate not only the facial skin but also the body. However, limit yourself to one or two exfoliations per week to avoid sensitising the skin further. This will help you get rid of dead skin and aid in the development of new cells, which will enhance the skin's glow, as well as boost the effectiveness of skincare products by allowing them to penetrate more easily. We encourage you to follow up with a nourishing and hydrating face mask. This will help restore suppleness and radiance to the epidermis.

Our product recommendations:

Body and face, all our scrubs are based on exfoliating particles obtained from the grinding of apricot kernels (INCI name: Prunus Armeniaca Seed Powder). Moreover, they feature three different textures in one product: under the effect of massage, the gel transforms into an exfoliating oil, then emulsifies into milk upon contact with the skin to facilitate rinsing. Formulated cold, this D-phase gel is composed of a majority oil phase and a minority aqueous phase.

  • The radiance facial scrub, in addition to providing instant smooth skin, brightens the complexion thanks to the presence of rosehip oil (INCI name: Rosa Canina Fruit Oil) with regenerative and antioxidant properties, and carrot macerate (INCI name: Daucus Carota Sativa Root Extract) to give a natural sun-kissed glow.

  • Enriched with sweet almond oil, known for its nourishing and antioxidant properties, and super lavandin essential oil (INCI name: Lavandula Hybrida Herb Oil), recognised for its regenerative and anti-inflammatory virtues, the nourishing body scrub helps to soften and supple the skin. Nourished and exfoliated, the skin is revitalised, soft and comfortable.

5. Target the risk-prone areas (lips, hands, feet).

It's not just the face that is exposed to the cold: hands and feet can become particularly dehydrated in winter. Indeed, extremities are areas that are sensitive to the cold. Therefore, it's important to hydrate and nourish them with treatments specifically formulated for this purpose.

Alongside the face, the hands are one of the body parts most exposed to the cold. They are particularly prone to dryness and chapping, and can be further weakened when washed multiple times throughout the day. To prevent the onset of these discomforts, consider nourishing and protecting them with a layer of care specifically designed for this area, whether before putting on your gloves, after washing your hands, or before going to bed. Reapply as often as necessary.

The fine structure and absence of sebaceous glands make the skin of the lips susceptible to dryness. As a result, they can be affected and weakened by winter aggressions. Consequently, during the cold season, the skin of the lips can easily become chapped, and experience sensations of burning and tightness. Therefore, they need to be hydrated and protected. The solution? A protective lip balm composed of fatty substances, occlusive agents and healing agents to be applied daily as soon as you think of it is essential. You can reapply each time the need arises.

Our product recommendations:

  • With its minimalist formula, our 9-ingredient lip balm is enriched with shea butter, known for its nourishing, anti-inflammatory and repairing properties: thus, lips regain comfort, suppleness and softness. However, if you wish to add a touch of colour to your lips, then opt for our coloured hydrating lip balm. Available in 5 shades, our tinted lip balms are composed of hyaluronic acid (INCI name: Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate) for its hydrating properties, ofraspberry oil (INCI name: Rubus Idaeus Seed Oil) for its nourishing and protective virtues, and of peppermint macerate (INCI name: Mentha Piperita Leaf) for a refreshing and soothing effect.

  • Enriched with coconut oil (INCI name: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil) and sunflower oil (INCI name: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil) to retain moisture in the upper layers of the epidermis, the 10-ingredient hand balm has been specially designed to repair, nourish and soothe dry and damaged hands. Fragrance-free, this balm has been formulated using only the necessary ingredients for its function, thus consisting of 10 ingredients.
