"C10-18 Triglycerides": what exactly are they?
This pertains to saturated fatty acid triglycerides. From a chemical perspective, triglycerides are glycerides in which the three hydroxyl groups of glycerol are esterified by fatty acids (molecules composed of a long chain of carbon atoms).
Triglycerides are lipids, in other words, fatty substances. They can be found in animal fats, dairy products, but also in vegetable oils. The "C10-18 Triglycerides" present in certain skin and hair care products is generally derived from a vegetable oil, such as olive, palm, etc...
In cosmetics, the "C10-18 Triglycerides" are primarily used for three functions:
Emollient: This ingredient makes formulas pleasant to the touch and soft upon application, facilitating their deposition on the skin, mucous membranes such as the lips, or even the hair.
Skin Care Agent:Triglycerides strengthen the hydrolipidic film present on the surface of the epidermis, limiting dehydration and protecting the skin from external aggressions.
Solvent: This characteristic is purely functional and is not associated with any specific benefits for the skin and/or hair. However, it is sometimes important to add a good solvent to a formula to facilitate the dispersion of other substances and/or promote the stability of the product.
In which Typology skincare products can one find "C10-18 Triglycerides"?
Derivedfrom plants, the "C10-18 Triglycerides" exhibits excellent skin tolerance and is included in our following treatments:
The tinted lip balms are enriched with hyaluronic acid and raspberry seed extract. These multi-purpose balms lightly tint the lips and cheeks, while providing comfort, nourishment and hydration. They are formulated without mineral oils, silicones and synthetic fragrances; they contain over 97% natural origin ingredients. The "C10-18 Triglycerides" here softens the texture of the balms and also aids in the dispersion of pigments.
The face firming cream contains 0.2% of retinol combined with tsubaki oil. It helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin fibres to prevent signs of skin ageing. The "C10-18 Triglycerides" add fluidity to the texture and softness upon application. As retinol can be irritating, we advise against its use for sensitive and reactive skin types.
The antioxidant face cream contains 5% of vitamin C as well as lemon extract. It helps to combat the oxidation phenomenon responsible for dull complexion and premature skin ageing. Better protected from oxidation and more toned, the skin regains its radiance, softness and the pores are less apparent.
The cleansing balm with camellia oil also contains "C10-18 Triglycerides". It has a transformative texture from balm to oil to milk. It removes makeup from the face and eyes and cleanses gently. The skin is supple, soft and comfortable.
