What Is “Asiaticoside” and What Is Its Use?

Asiaticoside is a glycosylated triterpenoid, isolated and purified from a herbaceous plant called Centella asiatica, also known as Gotu Kola and Asian Hydrocotyle. It grows in tropical and subtropical swampy areas of Asia, but also in Africa and Oceania. In some Asian countries (China, India, Indonesia), the medicinal properties of this plant have been recognized for over 2,000 years. The populations used it in poultices to heal wounds, and more particularly the cutaneous manifestations of leprosy. Asiaticoside is a compound found in the roots, leaves and petioles of Centella asiatica. In asiaticoside in skin care has several benefits detailed below.

First, asiaticoside accelerates the healing process, whether in the case of superficial burns or deep wounds. This molecule also significantly increases the tensile strength of the newly formed skin.
