Maskne

Definition: Skin condition caused by prolonged wearing of a mask. It is characterised by blemishes (blackheads, enlarged pores, red spots, etc...) and irritations (redness, itching, etc...), located along the jawline. Indeed, the mask creates a warm and humid environment, conducive to the growth of bacteria and microbes, due to perspiration, respiration and speech, not to mention the mechanical friction exerted by the mask on the skin.
Internal and external causes: Occlusive effect of wearing a mask, friction of the mask against the skin.
How to reduce or eliminate: Use a topical treatment specifically on spots containing salicylic acid; avoid handling or bursting the spots; rely on a soothing treatment containing niacinamide; apply a nourishing cream to repair the skin barrier.
Preventative steps to take: Perform a double cleanse each evening; opt for a weekly exfoliation session, followed by the application of a purifying mask; rely on non-comedogenic products; regularly change your mask (every 4 hours); hydrate your skin in the morning with a light cream; apply your moisturising treatment at least 30 minutes before putting on your mask; avoid wearing makeup every day.
