How to take care of your lips?

The lips deserve as much care as the rest of the face. Often overlooked, they are constantly subjected to the assault of various external factors, which can weaken them, damage them or even cause them to crack when they are overworked. The skin of the lips thus requires special attention, both in winter and summer. Discover our advice for taking care of them on a daily basis.

Our range of products for daily lip care.

Advice No.1: Daily lip cleansing.

Why should we cleanse our lips every day?

Just as with facial skin, removing makeup is an essential step in daily lip care. Even if your lip makeup has faded throughout the day or you simply haven't applied any, make it a habit to thoroughly cleanse your lips each evening. Indeed, throughout the day, your lips come into contact with various substances: food, saliva, tobacco, pollution particles... The benefit is twofold: not only will your lips be rid of impurities, but they will also be perfectly prepared to receive their treatments.

Opt for a cleanser rich in fatty substances, such as cleansing oil, for its gentle and respectful formulation. It allows for easy removal of all traces of makeup without harming the lips with repeated applications, even those difficult to dissolve (waterproof lipsticks, long-lasting, non-transfer, ink...). Moreover, being rich in vegetable oils, it will additionally nourish the skin of the lips.

Which treatment should be used?

Our 7-ingredient cleansing oil gently helps to remove makeup, even the most stubborn, without irritating or drying out the lips. Based on vegetable oils, it notably containssunflower oil (INCI name: Helianthus Annuus Hybrid Oil (Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil) andsweet almond oil (INCI name: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil). In addition to this, it leaves a protective film on the lips.

Advice No. 2: Exfoliate for soft lips.

What is the purpose of exfoliating the lips?

Facial exfoliation is well-known, but lip exfoliation is less so. However, this ritual is full of benefits: its composition (grains or chemical exfoliant) eliminates dead cells and roughness that linger on the surface of the lips, stimulates blood microcirculation, as well as cellular renewal. Exfoliating your lips will leave them smooth, softened, soft and delicately pink. As a bonus: it allows for better absorption of the active ingredients of the balm applied afterwards, improves the application of your tinted lip products and makes them last much longer. Lip peeling should be performed once a week, no more. However, if your lips show extreme sensitivity, limit yourself to once a month. Adjust the frequency of exfoliations according to the condition of your lips.

Contraindications : To avoid weakening your lips, do not exfoliate them haphazardly. The toothbrush technique should be avoided: its hard and prickly bristles damage the lips. Similarly, although it may be tempting, do not bite your lips to remove dead skin: this action will further weaken your lips. Instead, opt for a ready-to-use treatment specifically designed for this delicate area. Moreover, if you have chapped lips, the priority should be to provide your skin with restorative active ingredients to speed up their healing, whereas exfoliation would only worsen their condition.

Which treatment should one choose?

We have specifically developed a lip peel. Based onmandelic acid andpomegranate enzyme (INCI name: Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract), this treatment allows your lips to regain their softness and rosy colour. To do this, run the applicator over your lips and let the treatment work for about ten seconds to remove dead skin cells, then finish with the application of a lip balm.

Advice No. 3: The lip mask for overnight hydration.

Why should one apply a mask to their lips?

Mirroring facial masks, lip masks are renowned for providing an ultra-nourishing and deep repairing effect, acting as a true restorative balm when left on overnight. Indeed, it will target dry areas and repair chapped lips. The result? Lips that are intensely regenerated, soothed, deeply nourished, and soft by the next day. It is recommended to use one to two times per week.

Which treatment should one choose?

With a texture identical to that of a balm, our regenerating and repairing lip mask is particularly recommended if you have chapped, dry or damaged lips, enveloping them to provide maximum hydration. Formulated with 98% natural origin ingredients, our lip mask is composed of:

  • Of ceramides (INCI name: Ceramides NG) that regenerate damaged lips.

  • Ofhyaluronic acid (INCI name: Sodium Hyaluronate), whose moisturising virtues prevent skin dryness, while also plumping the lips.

  • Of mango butter (INCI name: Mangifera Indica Seed Butter), highly nourishing, it provides immediate comfort and a complete barrier effect.

Applied in a semi-thick layer in the evening, it restores your lips to their full hydration, plump shape, softness, and original suppleness upon waking.

Advice No. 4: The application of a lip balm, the essential.

Why is it so crucial to hydrate one's lips?

The lips exhibit a composition different from the rest of the face. In addition to being particularly thin, their semi-mucous membranes lack sweat glands and have only a minute quantity of sebaceous glands, responsible for sweat and sebum, respectively, and therefore for the natural hydration of the skin. Indeed, the hydrolipidic film, which is supposed to protect them from external aggressions and limit their dehydration, is non-existent.

Naturally lacking this protective barrier, the skin of the lips is thus more vulnerable to dryness and various skin discomforts: tingling, tightness, cracks or even chapping, thereby altering the appearance of the lips if they are not properly protected and hydrated.

Lip balm, whether transparent or tinted, is an essential ally for protecting your lips every day. Composed of nourishing and film-forming ingredients, it creates a protective layer on the skin's surface that mimics the functions of the hydrolipidic film. Apply it at least three times a day.

Which skincare routine should one adopt?

In a convenient format, our 9-ingredient lip balm does not just act by creating a protective film on the surface of the lips, but also nourishes them deeply. It thus leaves a feeling of suppleness and softness on the lips. With 99.8% of ingredients of natural origin, its minimalist fragrance-free formula is notably composed of shea butter (INCI name: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter) with healing properties, which provides lipids to the lips just like thesunflower oil and hydrogenated castor oil (INCI name: Hydrogenated Castor Oil Behenyl Esters).

Little Extra : Just like the rest of the body, the first essential step to maintain healthy lips is to drink water. Good body hydration will also have an impact on the hydration of the lips. To maintain an optimal hydration level, drink a sufficient amount of water. Per day, it is recommended to drink at least 1.5 litres of water.

Advice No. 5: Protect your lips from the sun.

Why should we provide sun protection for our lips?

The lips too are subject to the influence of the sun. Compared to other parts of the body, the lips produce virtually no melanin pigment (they do not tan), capable of protecting them from the sun's UV rays even though they are directly exposed. This makes the skin of the lips very sensitive to the sun, thus increasing its need for protection.

What approach should be taken?

Whether you're sunbathing at the beach or skiing in the mountains, it's important to generously apply a lip balm with a high sun protection factor (minimum SPF30) to shield them from the harmful effects of UV rays, such as chapping, sunburn (redness), and photoaging.

Additional tips for achieving beautiful lips?

In parallel to your special lip care routine, you must adopt the right practices.

  • Lightly moistening one's lips with acidic pH saliva is one of the bad habits we have when we feel that they are dry and taut. Although soothing and comforting at the moment, the effect is the opposite: once evaporated, this action will amplify the dryness, the sensations of tightness, and will generate chapping, taking away with it the little hydration that remained;

  • Minimise the use of matte or long-lasting lipsticks that have a drying effect as much as possible, or consider applying a balm before any lip makeup. Alternatively, turn to formulas rich in nourishing and hydrating active ingredients like our coloured lip balms or our tinted oils, which will combine hydrated lips and a healthy glow thanks to the pigments they contain, giving a "made-up" effect. Powdered pink, coral orange, ruby red, plum purple... numerous shades exist.
