Definition:
Horizontal or vertical expression lines that appear each time we engage the frontal muscle. They are the result of our facial expressions and gestures (raising eyebrows, frowning, squinting). Indeed, these daily facial contractions eventually lead to the formation of wrinkles that manifest in two forms: across the entire width of the forehead (horizontal wrinkles) and small vertical lines between the two eyebrows on the lower forehead (frown lines). This phenomenon is explained by the gradual decrease in collagen, elastic fibres, and hyaluronic acid, which are essential elements for skin firmness, as well as the loss of fatty tissue leading to a significant loss of skin elasticity.
Internal and external causes:
Skin ageing, genetics, daily strain on the frontal muscle.
How to reduce or eliminate:
Adopt a beauty routine that favours treatments containing retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants (such as vitamin C, ferulic acid...); perform a daily self-massage to relax the forehead muscle; aesthetic medicine (hyaluronic acid injections, radiofrequency, botulinum toxin injection, peeling, photostimulation).
Preventative steps to take:
Hydrate your skin daily; protect the skin of your face with a sun care product suitable for your phototype; practice facial gymnastics; use care products rich in antioxidants; avoid overworking the forehead muscle.
