The essential guide to our serum mascara
Our serum mascara is a hybrid of makeup and skincare for your lashes. Like traditional mascara, this hybrid product is used to create a wax film on the surface of your lashes, giving them colour, length, and volume and making your eyes pop. However, what sets it apart is its action on your lash follicles. It activates lash regrowth, leading to long-lasting and natural results.
Traditional mascara consists of a tube containing a tinted emulsion with an applicator brush that is curved, hourglass shape or even conical, and that adds volume and length to your lashes. The brush is soaked in a colouring product, and combs all your eyelashes from root to tip. Mascara is most popular in black, but also exists in different shades: brown, blue, green, purple...
The ingredients in our serum mascara
Our serum mascara is formulated in the same way as an oil-in-water emulsion:
Solvents: These are a medium in which we mix the other ingredients. The main one used is demineralised water (INCI: Aqua (Water));
Hydrophobic film-forming agents: These make it possible to give the serum mascara a film-forming texture and to help it stick to your lashes, giving it a long-lasting effect and making sure that it doesn’t run or crumble. These can be carnauba wax (INCI: Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax), hydroxyethylcellulose, polyurethane-99, etc...
Thickening polymers: These give thickness and viscosity to the formula and provide stability. They can be acacia gum from Senegal/arabic gum (INCI: Acacia Senegal Gum), xanthan gum (INCI: Xanthan Gum), etc...
Active ingredients: Our active ingredients give our serum mascara additional properties (lengthening, strengthening, regenerating, etc…). While some nourish the lash follicles, others strengthen your eyelashes to reduce breakage or stimulate growth. These can be castor oil, ginseng extract, provitamin B5, pea peptides or even argan oil.
Emulsifiers: Surfactants help to ensure a homogeneous mixture of aqueous phase and oily phase. Their function is to scatter the oil droplets in the aqueous solution to obtain a stable emulsion. They can be cetearyl olivate (INCI: Cetearyl Olivate), sorbitan olivate (INCI: Sorbitan Olivate), glyceryl stearate (Glyceryl Stearate), etc...
Pigments: Our serum mascara looks after your eyelashes while colouring them, so pigments of vegetable or mineral origin are integrated into the product to bring the colour. They can be iron oxide (INCI: CI 77499), carmine (INCI: CI 75470), titanium dioxide (INCI: CI 77891), etc...
Antimicrobial protection agents: These are essential to preserve the product, preventing the development of bacteria and preserving the properties of each active ingredient. They can be sodium benzoate (INCI: Sodium Benzoate), tocopherol, which is also an antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of vegetable oils, potassium sorbate (INCI: Potassium Sorbate), etc...
Typology’s serum mascara
At Typology, we’ve developed a serum mascara which guarantees to both enhance and take care of your lashes. Its formula will instantly highlight your eyelashes but also look after them day after day. It’s designed to nourish, revitalise and improve the look of your lashes everyday, but also to stimulate growth and lengthen your lashes, taking long term care of them from root to tip.
Our serum mascara is a direct oil-in-water emulsion, i.e. it is composed of an oily phase dispersed in an aqueous phase. Its formula is composed of 96% ingredients of natural origin, and 5.8% skincare ingredients. It comes with a brush made of fibres derived from castor oil, that provides precision with each application. Its black tint cares for your lashes and its formula coats them with a protective film with every use. Plus, its high concentration of CI 77499, a black pigment, makes it long-lasting.
Its formula is inspired by hair science. We’ve chosen castor oil for its nourishing and fortifying properties, pea peptides to strengthen eyelashes from the base, keratin to tone the eyelash structure, arginine to stimulate lash growth and prevent lash fall, and added charcoal powder to colour and visibly lengthen lashes. The fact that the mascara serum is an oil-in-water emulsion also makes it easy to remove at the end of the day.
In terms of our ecological and vegan commitments, its formula is free of silicones, which are not biodegradable and pollute the environment, has no mineral waxes or oils, which are derivatives of petroleum and obtained via a polluting process, and doesn’t contain any beeswax or ingredients of animal origin.
