Quand utiliser un masque hydratant visage ?

When should you use a facial hydrating mask?

Directly exposed to various external aggressions (UV rays, temperature variations, wind, pollution...), the skin becomes dehydrated and fine lines appear and/or become more pronounced. The hydrating mask helps to combat this phenomenon. Here you will find some information about this type of product and its frequency of use.

Why use a hydrating mask?

Dehydrated skin is characterised by feelings of tightness, as well as the appearance or accentuation of fine lines at the corners of the eyes and/or around the mouth. It is also often implicated when the complexion is dull, with a greyish appearance.

This occasional skin condition is typically due to a lack of hydration in one's daily diet and/or a temporary disruption of the skin barrier due to various factors (pollution, sun exposure, wind, cold...) and/or poor lifestyle habits (smoking, alcohol...).With age and the passage of time, this is compounded by a drastic reduction in the content of hyaluronic acid (a macromolecule capable of retaining up to a thousand times its weight in water) in the dermis, the deep layer of the skin, which exacerbates skin dehydration.

To counteract this phenomenon, it is recommended to apply daily care products containing moisturising active ingredients such as thealoe vera extractor thehyaluronic acid, regardless of your skin type. For an immediate effect on skin hydration, it is also advised to use moisturising masks.

How would one define a hydrating mask?

Generally, a hydrating mask is a single-phase aqueous solution with a thick, even waxy texture, rich in hydrophilic compounds. Some active ingredients can directly stimulate the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin, while others form a film on the surface of the epidermis, limiting water evaporation through a so-called humectant mechanism.

The immediate action of a hydrating mask helps to diminish dehydration fine lines and gives the skin a plumped appearance. In the cosmetic market, this type of treatment is available in cream, gel or fabric textures. It is generally recommended for all skin types but is particularly suited to dehydrated skin, prone to tightness and discomfort.

How often should a hydrating face mask be applied?

Depending on the skin type and its needs, the hydrating mask is applied once to twice a week. If you have dehydrated skin that often feels tight, do not hesitate to perform this type of mask twice a week. A greasy skin that shows imperfections, on the other hand, may be content with a hydrating mask at a weekly frequency.

When should one apply a hydrating facial mask?

A hydrating mask should always be applied to a skin that is cleansed, clean and dry. Generally, this type of treatment does not contain photosensitising compounds and can therefore be applied at any time of the day. However, it is still relevant to apply a hydrating mask in the evening before bedtime. Indeed, it is often recommended to perform a scrub prior to the mask to enhance the penetration of active ingredients through the skin. However, a scrub is usually performed in the evening due to the alteration of the hydrolipidic film it causes.

Furthermore, a hydrating mask is synonymous with relaxation and well-being, and it is generally in the evening when we have more time to take care of ourselves and our skin in particular.

What beauty routine should be followed around a hydrating facial mask?

To enhance the penetration of active ingredients through the skinand remove impurities/excess sebum that clog the pores, start by performing an exfoliation just before applying the hydrating mask on the face. In this regard, depending on your skin type, you can use theradiance face scrub (for dry, uncomfortable and/or dull skin) or theregenerating face scrub (for dry skin showing signs of skin ageing).

Following the exfoliation, the hydrating mask can be applied evenly on dry skin in a semi-thick layer, avoiding the eye contour. For this step, the mask can be spread directly with the fingers or with a brush to distribute the treatment evenly. It is recommended to leave the mask on for 10 minutes before rinsing your face with clear water.

Following this, once the skin is thoroughly dry, you can apply a moisturising treatment to sustain the hydrating properties provided by the mask. In this regard, the face moisturising cream with 9 ingredients enriched with hyaluronic acid and coconut oil is particularly suitable for dry skin. If you prefer a lighter texture because you have combination to oily skin, the hydrating serum based on hyaluronic acid and provitamin B5 compensates for the natural decrease of hyaluronic acid in the skin, resulting in hydrated, plump and smoother skin.
