Peau grasse : quels sont les bons gestes à adopter ?

Oily Skin: What are the right habits to adopt?

Theoily skin is due to an overactive sebaceous glands that secrete sebum excessively (hyperseborrhea). It thus tends to shine, especially on the wings of the nose, forehead and chin (T-zone of the face). What daily habits should be adopted to limit this phenomenon?

Cleaning the face morning and evening.

To prevent the excess sebum characteristic of oily skin from clogging the skin pores and thus promoting the formation of blackheads, it is imperative to deeply cleanse the face every day using a gentle cleansing care product suitable for your skin type, in addition to removing makeup. In this regard, we have developed two solid soaps.

  • The purifying charcoal cleansing care:

You can incorporate into your beauty routine thepurifying cleansing treatmentwithactivated charcoal(INCI name: "Charcoal Powder"). This active ingredient has the ability toabsorb toxins and impuritiespresent on the skin's surface, thereby deeply unclogging the pores. Charcoal also helps toregulate excess sebum, thus preventing the appearance of spots and mattifying oily skin. Finally, this ingredient has agranular texturebut is gentle, allowing for a light mechanical peeling of the skin. It thus removes dead cells from the skin's surface and stimulates cell renewal. In addition to theactivated charcoal powder, this soap also containshemp oil(INCI name: "Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil") withsebum-regulating properties,as well asAtlas cedar essential oil(INCI name: "Cedrus Atlantica Wood Oil") andScots pine(INCI name: "Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil"), offeringanti-bacterial and purifying action.

  • The rebalancing cleansing care with nettle:

If your skin is oily, you can add thenettle rebalancing soapto your daily skincare routine. Rich in mineral salts and trace elements (sulphur, zinc, copper, etc...), thestinging nettle(INCI name: "Urtica Dioica Leaf Powder")helps rid the skin of toxins. This plant also haspurifying and astringent properties. It therefore regulates excess sebum. In addition, stinging nettle also contains antioxidants (chlorophyll, flavonoids, etc...) thatprotect the skin from the effects of ageingand promote the regeneration of skin tissues. To enhance the actions of the nettle soap, nettle powder is combined with other ingredients such aseucalyptus globulus essential oil(INCI name: "Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil") for itsastringent properties.

Note: If you prefer a gel texture, opt for the purifying cleansing gel enriched with zinc PCA or the exfoliating cleansing gel PHA 5% + aloe vera.

Always remove your makeup.

Cleansing is essential for all skin types, but particularly for oily skin. Never go to bed still wearing makeup, as this can clog the pores. The cleanser thus allows the removal of makeup residues but also impurities (dust, pollution particles, etc...) that have accumulated on your skin throughout the day.

For optimal makeup removal, apply the cleansing oil directly onto your face until all makeup has completely disappeared. Complement this action with the micellar water containing 7 ingredients.

Utilising mattifying active ingredients.

In order to limit the dilation of pores and the subsequent appearance of blackheads, there is only one solution: mattifying. In this regard, azelaic acidproves to be one of the most effective active ingredients, especially when it is concentrated in serum and combined with other ingredients known for their absorbent and purifying properties.

Derived from plants, this acid is known for its sebum-regulating, anti-comedogenic, and antibacterial properties. Indeed, this molecule works to regulate sebum production, reduce the formation of open comedones (blackheads), and limit the proliferation of bacteria responsible for the appearance of spots.

Do not overlook hydration.

Theskin dehydrationis an occasional issue and is not associated with a specific skin type.In other words, adry skincan be dehydrated, just like anoily skin, normal orcombination skin. Generally, skin dehydration is due to alack of water supply in the upper layer of the skindue to daily diet, a temporary alteration of the skin barrier and/or poor lifestyle habits. Moreover, over the years, the decrease in hyaluronic acid content (a macromolecule capable of retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water) in the dermis also affects the deep hydration of the skin.

If you desire a moisturising treatment with a light texture, the plumping serum Polyglutamic Acid 3% + Red Algae Extract smooths dehydration fine lines and plumps the skin. Polyglutamic acid is composed of macromolecules that create a protective film on the skin's surface for prolonged hydration.

Once a week, apply a face mask.

The overproduction of sebum is the cause of blemishes and shiny skin in oily skin types. Thanks to a purifying mask, sebum production is regulated, pores are unclogged and blemishes are reduced. This treatment contains three active ingredients: stinging nettle, pine charcoal and green clay.

Rich in trace elements, thestinging nettlehaspurifying and sebum-regulating virtues. It also reduces the visibility of pores inblemish-prone skin. Thepine charcoalsanitises and detoxifies the skin due to itsabsorbent virtues. It deeply cleanses and mattifies the skin. Thegreen clayhassebum-regulating, softening, and healing properties. It purifies, softens, and repairs the skin. Rich in minerals and trace elements, green clay also hassoothing virtues.

Thismask made from charcoal and nettleis therefore suitable for combination to oily skin types. Enjoy its benefits by applying once a week. Before each application, remember to thoroughlycleanse your skin. Once applied, leave the mask on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Maintaining one's lifestyle.

Several aspects need to be (re)considered in our daily routine to best limit oily skin.

  • Limit certain foods that promote sebum production. These are primarily foods with a high glycemic index, but also dairy products (except cheese).

  • Limit sun exposure. Heat stimulates the activity of the sebaceous glands and therefore the production of sebum. In addition, repeated exposure to UV rays makes the skin thicker. To limit this, avoid exposing yourself during the hottest hours and always apply a protection suitable for your skin tone.

  • Learning to relax. The skin and the nervous system are interconnected. In relation to oily skin, the stress hormone known as cortisol promotes the production of sebum. All strategies for relaxation are beneficial: meditation, relaxation, yoga, dance...
