Over the years, lips lose volume, gradually sag and thus become increasingly thin. Here are some tips to help you regain plump and bouncy lips in a natural way, without resorting to cosmetic surgery or injections.
How to naturally plump up your lips?
- 1. Exfoliate your lips
- 2. Apply a moisturising mask
- 3. Regularly hydrate your lips
- 4. Use a skincare product containing hyaluronic acid
- 5. Try contouring
- 6. Plump up your lips through facial gymnastics
- 7. Use cold to plump up your lips
1. Exfoliate your lips.
Consider exfoliating your lips no more than once a week using a fine-grained scrub. Exfoliating the skin on your lips helps to remove all the tiny dead skin cells, thus promoting the effective absorption of your moisturising balm or the longevity of your lipstick. However, exfoliation does more than just smooth and soften the lips. It also revitalises the tissues by reactivating blood flow, which will slightly plump them up and, as a bonus, enhance the natural rosy hue of the lips.
2. Apply a moisturising mask.
Lips too deserve a hydrating mask. Found in the form of a cream, a fabric soaked in a nourishing solution, or silicone, this treatment can either be left on overnight or for a good ten minutes before gently massaging your lips with the excess product to allow it to penetrate and fully reap its benefits. It will deeply hydrate your lips, soothe them, make them softer, and temporarily give them a plump appearance.
Little extra : You can rely on lip masks with pepper or chilli. These two spices will create a vasodilation effect on the cells. This activates blood circulation, which will give your lips a plump and colourful effect for a few hours.
3. Regularly hydrate your lips.
It cannot be stressed enough, achieving plump and full lips requires proper hydration. Indeed, hydration is essential for providing the skin with its suppleness, softness and tone. At least three times a day, hydrate your lips with a moisturising balm. Then massage them, drawing them into your mouth to allow the treatment to penetrate and stimulate blood microcirculation.
4. Use a skincare product containing hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body. This molecule combines with water and fills the spaces between cells. It is therefore essential for skin hydration. However, with age, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to a loss of volume and elasticity. The external supply of hyaluronic acid thus helps to maintain the water hydration of the skin of the lips and to combat volume loss. Indeed, the application of a care product enriched with hyaluronic acid on the lips allows them to be deeply hydrated, densified and reduces the fine lines around the mouth.
5. Try contouring.
You can also reshape your lips using a lip pencil that matches the colour of your lipstick or your tinted balm. Add volume to your lips by slightly overlining your natural lip line. Apply a touch of highlighter on the cupid's bow to accentuate your lips by playing with shadow and light effects. This trick enhances the lips and creates the illusion of volume by capturing light in this area.
6. Plump up your lips through facial gymnastics.
Facial gymnastics helps to strengthen the contour of the lips to prevent wrinkles, increase the volume of your upper and lower lip, and maintain skin elasticity. There are several techniques:
First exercise: Form the letter O with your mouth in an exaggerated manner by projecting your lips forward. Hold this position for a few seconds, then release. Repeat this exercise about ten times in a row each day to add volume to your lips and also to prevent the appearance of fine lines;
2nd exercise: Grasp your lips with your index finger and thumb, and stretch them forward. Then, perform small pinches around the lips. This technique will promote microcirculation. Repeat the entire exercise at least four times;
3rd exercise: Stretch your lips to their maximum by pressing them against each other, as if you were giving a kiss. Then hold this position for about ten seconds, relax and repeat the same movement about ten times;
4th exercise: Work on the upper part of your lip from the inside using your two thumbs, placing them in the centre. Then push your lip forward with your thumbs, while trying to resist. Finish by pinching your lips to reshape them. Repeat the entire exercise two to five times.
7. Use cold to plump up your lips.
Massage your lips with an ice cube for two minutes. The cold will stimulate the microcirculation of blood and provide an instant plumping effect to your lips. The effect is not permanent, but this tip helps to refresh the lips, whilst promoting microcirculation.
