Which exfoliant should be used depending on your skin type?

Exfoliation is among the beauty rituals to be performed on a weekly basis. To carry it out properly without irritating the area to be treated, particularly the face, it is important to choose the treatment according to the skin type. Today, there are all sorts of treatments available that cater to the needs of each skin type. But which one should you choose for your skin?

Exfoliation for dry skin.

Dry skin manifests as a dull complexion, feelings of discomfort or tightness. It is also characterised by a rough appearance, the presence of flakes or the emergence of redness. These characteristics are symptoms of skin inflammation and irritation. Contrary to popular belief, dry skin can also benefit from exfoliation. This process is essential to stimulate the sebaceous glands and thus activate sebum production. Indeed, it is the lack of sebum that promotes skin dryness. This should only be performed once a week. The ideal is to opt for a treatment with fine exfoliating grains, to be emulsified with water with a gentle, hydrating, nourishing and regenerating formula to improve the condition of the epidermal surface, like our regenerating face scrub. This scrub is notably enriched with olive squalane, a natural emollient rich in lipids that helps repair the skin's hydrolipidic film, as well as geranium rose essential oil, known for its regenerating virtues. It thus helps to soften and smooth the skin and optimises cellular regeneration for a more toned skin. The apricot kernel powder, on the other hand, offers delicate exfoliation.

Exfoliation for normal to combination skin.

As the name suggests, combination skin merges the characteristics of both dry and oily skin in different areas of the face. Indeed, it is oily in the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, and dry on the cheeks. The oily area is shiny with enlarged pores, spots and/or blackheads, while the dry area exhibits redness, flaking and/or feelings of tightness and discomfort. To achieve soft, even and smooth skin, it is necessary to exfoliate the epidermis, focusing primarily on the T-zone. The aim is to unclog the pores, purify the oilier parts of the skin, without over-drying the already dry or sensitive areas. This care should be performed twice a week. To do this, it is recommended to choose a hydrating exfoliating treatment that is refreshing and provides a radiant complexion, correcting imperfections and relieving dryness. Our radiant facial scrub with rosehip is perfect for this skin type. This melting gel with micro-beads of apricot kernels will unclog the pores and promote cellular renewal for smooth skin, an even and luminous complexion. This exfoliating treatment is also suitable for those with normal skin.

Exfoliation for oily or blemished skin.

Oily skin is characterised by an excessive production of sebum. It can be identified by its shiny appearance and visibly enlarged pores. Generally, skin with blemishes often tends to be oily, sensitive to various external aggressions. As the pores are open, dirt settles in, clogs them and promotes the appearance of all kinds of comedones. Oily or blemished skin requires appropriate care to regain its radiance and balance. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a purifying and mattifying scrub, to be applied twice a week. You can opt for the exfoliating serum with glycolic acid which helps to get rid of blackheads, unclog pores, reduce skin shine and mattify the skin surface.

Exfoliation for sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin is often referred to as reactive skin, as it quickly responds to stimuli. This skin type can be identified by various intermittent signs, including tingling, feelings of tightness and heat, or itching. It also struggles to tolerate certain skincare formulas. If you have sensitive skin, limit exfoliation to once every two weeks to avoid further aggravating the skin surface. You should opt for soothing exfoliating treatments that alleviate the various reactions occurring on the skin surface. Opt for a fruit acid exfoliation that requires no rubbing, such as the gentle peeling serum with lactic acid. This molecule, larger than the glycolic acid molecule, will penetrate less deeply into the epidermis, and will therefore be less irritating than the latter. However, remain vigilant and test it for 24 to 48 hours in the crook of your neck before a first application on your face.
