How to take care of your feet?

Given that our feet bear up to twice our body weight and keep pace with our daily rhythm, it is advisable to pay special attention to pamper them. Here are our tips for beautiful and healthy feet all year round.

Why is it necessary to take care of one's feet?

Encompassing no less than 7,200 nerve endings and connected to all our organs, the feet deserve special attention. Taking care of them means preserving our mobility, as any pain affecting them can become debilitating, extending to the joints, hips and even the back.

Theybear the entire weight of the body and are subjected to constant pressure during walking, running and daily activities. Regular maintenance can prevent pain, and problems related to posture and gait.

Taking better care of our feet also helps to prevent the formation ofingrown toenailsanddeformities,as well asvarious diseases and infectionssuch ascalluses, corns, fungal infections or hard skin. And since they are an integral part of our attractiveness, pampering them allows us to show them off without any embarrassment when summer arrives.

How to take care of your feet?

By adopting a few changes in the care we give to our feet, we can keep them healthy while also making them look beautiful:

  • Finding the perfect fit.

The size of shoes has an impact on foot health. Indeed, discomfort sensations, such as blisters, calluses or corns are all the result of compression caused by unsuitable shoes, generally too narrow. Similarly, shoes that are too tight can lead to deformities, such as hallux valgus (bunions), plantar fasciitis or Morton's neuroma, which are directly related to the quality of the footwear.

To avoid these discomforts that can quickly escalate, it is recommended to favour shoes with a flat sole and a wide upper. A source of comfort, these should allow the feet and toes to move without hindrance. High heels and pointed toes are therefore to be avoided. Of course, they are not completely excluded, but after an hour or two, swap them for flat shoes.

  • Strengthening one's feet.

Heavy legs, stiffness in the feet? Simple exercises can provide relief. In this regard, the shortened foot exercise targets the intrinsic muscles, the small muscles that are difficult to isolate. It is performed by contracting the foot while standing and keeping the toes flat. Walking also helps to tone and firm these muscles, as do stretches. Therefore, the more you move, the more you promote blood circulation and thus the oxygenation of tissues.

  • Pampering one's feet.

There are three essential steps to this:

  1. Exfoliation: Exfoliating once or twice a week on damp feet by massaging for a few minutes helps to remove dead skin and impurities. This also stimulates microcirculation. Before your exfoliation, you can have a foot bath in warm water which will facilitate the detachment of dead cells. Regarding exfoliation, you can use our nourishing body scrub enriched with sweet almond oil with nourishing properties, which rids the skin of its dead cells thanks to the micro grains of apricot kernels. Exfoliated and nourished, the skin is soft, supple and comfortable.

  2. Hydrating: Daily hydration can prevent many discomforts such as the emergence of dry feet which can lead to cracks or itching. Hydrate yourself daily, for example after showering, and gently massage the top and sole of the feet until your moisturising treatment is fully absorbed.

    Opt for skincare products that contain moisturising compounds such as glycerine, various plant oils (for example, olive oil and coconut oil) as well as hyaluronic acid. Our 10-ingredient body moisturiser is enriched with coconut oil and vegetable glycerine to hydrate all skin types, even the most sensitive. The use of moisturising socks can also be beneficial. These socks contain moisturising ingredients, humectants and emollient substances that nourish the feet.     It is also possible to use plant-based butters, such as shea butter, whose properties for increasing skin hydration have been proven. As such, it presents itself as an option to counteract water loss through the skin by acting against dehydration. Furthermore, the triterpenes and vitamin E present in shea butter promote cell renewal.

  3. Nail Care: Keep them short and clean to prevent ingrown nails and the spread of fungi. Trim them after a bath when they are softened and remember to complement this routine with a cuticle care treatment.
