Desert Excursion: Skincare Products to Take with You

When embarking on a trek in the desert, it's crucial to carry the bare minimum in beauty and skincare products. But what are the essentials to have without overly burdening one's backpack?

Sun protection, the number one essential for a trip in the desert.

The defining characteristics of desert regions are the intense heat and strong, and therefore highly harmful, sun rays. However,prolonged exposure to UV rays can lead to an increased risk of photoaging, photodermatoses,pigmentation spotsand skin cancers. Therefore, it is imperative to protect your skin against the sun's UV rays.

As a reminder, There are four levels of SPF:

  • From 6 to 15 for a low protection ;

  • From15 to 30for amedium protection;

  • From 30 to 50 for a high protection ;

  • Of 50+ for a very high protection.

Each index represents a percentage of UVB rays blocked. The choice of your sun protection level depends on your needs and your skin type. Darker skin tones can opt for an SPF30 while fair skin should favour an SPF50+.

Please note: Even though sun creams protect against UV rays, it is recommended to limit sun exposure, especially in regions with a desert climate. For prolonged exposure to the sun, you should reapply sun cream every two hours.

Do not overlook the hydration of the skin.

The desert is often conducive to a windy climate. Coupled with UV rays, these weather conditions dry out the skin, causing it to dehydrate more quickly than in a more "urban" environment.

Indispensable, the moisturising cream thus ranks among the essential beauty items to take with you when you travel to the desert. Indeed, to enhance the protection of your skin, it is appropriate to hydrate it regularly. This helps to restore and strengthen the hydrolipidic barrier, responsible for skin protection against external aggressions. As usual, choose this care according to your skin type. Opt for a minimalist format or one that is easy to store.

If you have sensitive, dry, normal or combination skin, ourmoisturising creamwith 9 ingredients is suitable. If you have oily skin, you should lean towards thepurifying cream Zinc PCA 4% + bamboo extract. Enriched with sebum-regulating and antibacterial active ingredients, it purifies the skin and combats skin imperfections.

In the morning, the moisturising cream should be paired with a sunscreen to maintain the skin's hydration throughout the day. In the evening, you can combine the moisturising cream with an after-sun product to preserve the tan.

Hair care should not be left behind!

The skin is not the only one to suffer from the effects of UV rays and wind. Hair also needs to be protected to avoid a "straw-like" effect due to increased dehydration. If you're planning an excursion in the desert, don't forget to bring a protective hair oil. This will help protect the hair fibre and keep it hydrated.

For instance, slip our rich oil for hair into your suitcase. Enriched with pequi and argan oil, it nourishes and restructures the hair fibre to protect it from heat. The hair becomes soft, shiny, and manageable.

And of course, the deodorant...

An essential for a desert excursion. Heat promotes perspiration and, with it, undesirable odours. Choose one designed with natural ingredients and free from aluminium salts. To avoid irritating shaved underarms, opt for deodorants based on 100% natural powders, oils, butters, waxes, and organic plant extracts.
