In a haircare routine, it is always recommended to follow shampooing with the application of a conditioner. Be it coloured hair, frizzy hair, or flat hair... the use of a conditioner is deemed essential. But for what reasons? Why should it be adopted?
What is the role of conditioner?
Conditioner: What is its usefulness?
Designed to focus on the lengths and ends, theconditioner is a hair care product with a coating texture that has been technically developed to temporarily seal split ends, give the illusion of thick hair, and enhance the feel, appearance, volume, shine and overall manageability of hair. The concept of conditioner was first created specifically for men by a perfumer named Edouard. He wanted to develop a formula intended to soften moustaches and beards. The conditioner, which has continued to evolve since, now offers numerous benefits to keep hair shiny and soft.
Contrary to popular belief, short hair also requires a conditioner, albeit less frequently than long hair.
Advantage No.1: The conditioner improves the texture of the hair.
Hair that has just been washed can be dry, dull, and difficult to style. Split ends occur when the protective cuticle of the distal hair shaft and the exposed cortex separate. Indeed, most shampoos have an alkaline pH, which causes the hair shaft to swell. This swelling loosens the protective cuticle, predisposing the hair shaft to damage. The use of a conditioner flattens the cuticle scales on the hair shaft thanks to cationic surfactants. They are excellent for increasing the adherence of the cuticular scales to the hair shaft, which enhances the hair's light-reflecting capabilities, adding shine and lustre, and also reduces friction between hair fibres.
Benefit No. 2: The conditioner restores the protective film.
During the hair washing process, the lipid layer that envelops the hair fibres is removed by the shampoo. This layer is responsible for the hair's hydrophobicity and its removal can damage the hair by making the fibre hydrophilic. Thanks to conditioning substances (silicones, vegetable oils, propylene glycol, etc.), the conditioner will help to coat the hair shafts with a protective layer to restore the fibre's hydrophobicity. It thus helps to restore shine to the hair by reflecting light, and to protect it against damage and split ends.
Benefit No. 3: The conditioner to facilitate detangling.
Its application to the hair fibre will limit the formation of knots and facilitate styling. It is particularly beneficial for wavy, curly or even frizzy hair that tends to frizz. The conditioner is capable of neutralising static electricity due to the negative (anionic) charge of treated or damaged hair, which attracts the positive (cationic) charge to adhere to the hair shaft, thus improving its manageability in both wet and dry conditions.
Our resurfacing conditioner is suitable for all hair types.
