Comment faire une double nettoyage ?

How to perform a double cleanse?

Double cleansing is a highly popular practice in South Korea and Japan, involving the use of two different types of cleansers for optimal skin cleansing. Here are the two steps that make up this method.

1. Makeup Removal, the Oily Phase.

The process of makeup removal involves detaching the oily residues that have adhered to the surface of the face and are clogging the pores, such as makeup, sebum, sunscreens, etc... To eliminate them, rely on a makeup remover with a lipophilic texture which have the ability to capture and dissolve oily substances more effectively than a liquid substance, while respecting the skin's balance. Contrary to popular belief, oil-based makeup removal is suitable for all skin types, even for oily skin. There are several types of oil-based makeup removers:

  • The cleansing balm gently cleanses and removes makeup from the face and eyes thanks to the camellia oils, buriti, coconut and sunflower wax it contains. It is also composed of a naturally derived cleansing base (polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate). The balm transforms into oil with the warmth of the fingers, then into milk upon contact with water to facilitate rinsing.

  • Thecleansing oil with 7 ingredients has been designed solely from essential ingredients for its function. It notably containssunflower oil andsweet almond oil, as well as a natural cleansing base.

Unlike pure oils, cleansing oils and balms emulsify upon contact with water, which facilitates rinsing without leaving a greasy film on the skin. Whether you choose the oil or the cleansing balm, the application method is the same. After first cleaning your hands, take a small amount of makeup remover, equivalent to a hazelnut, in the palm of your hand. Warm the product by rubbing your two hands together and distribute it over the entire face and neck by making light circular movements on dry skin to lift the makeup. Start by gently massaging your eyes and lips to avoid the risk of bringing makeup residues into the eyes, then continue on the rest of the face from the centre outwards, not forgetting the eyebrows and neck. Massaging the skin helps to activate the subcutaneous blood circulation and strengthen the facial muscles. Finish the operation by rinsing your face with warm water.

2. The cleansing, the aqueous phase.

This stage perfects the skin cleansing process with a water-based cleansing product (gel, foam, etc...). While the cleansing oil removes lipophilic molecules, the aqueous cleanser removes hydrophilic molecules such as sweat and dust. This second stage allows for more than just the removal of surface impurities, it acts deeply. It also removes the makeup remover from your face, thus the makeup residues, and is also capable of addressing skin concerns (dehydration, blemishes, excess sebum, etc...). The skin is then deeply cleansed, thus allowing the skin to regenerate better, and is ready to receive the rest of the skincare routine.

At Typology, you can opt for a facial cleanser with a gel texture. This gel turns into a foam on the skin upon contact with water, to refine the cleansing process and address specific skin concerns. Being very gentle, it helps to avoid feelings of tightness. Two alternatives are available:

  • The exfoliating cleansing gel allows for deep pore cleansing, reducing the appearance of blemishes, and revealing a radiant and even complexion. Composed among other things of PHA (gluconolactone), it thus offers a gentle micro-exfoliation daily. This facial cleanser also contains aloe vera, an ingredient packed with vitamins, minerals and amino acids, to soothe and repair the skin. Suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin, it is particularly recommended for dull or blemish-prone skin (blackheads, dilated pores, etc...).

  • The purifying cleansing gel helps to sanitise the skin, regulate sebum production and limit the development of blemishes thanks to the purifying active ingredients it contains (zinc PCA, bamboo extract and eucalyptus globulus essential oil), without drying it out. It is recommended for combination to oily skin types.

Begin by dampening your hands and then place a small amount of product suitable for your skin type in the palm of your hand. Next, massage your face and neck with circular movements on damp skin to make the product more effective but also to stimulate micro-blood circulation. Rinse and gently dry your skin with a clean, dry towel by delicately patting.

3. The toner or hydrosol to refine the skin cleansing process.

The tonic lotion or thehydrosol represents the final step in the skin cleansing ritual, but also the first step in skincare. However, this step is not mandatory but it is recommended to remove the last little traces of forgotten impurities. These products provide additional hydration, particularly for dehydrated skin, soothe irritated skin and optimally prepare it to receive the upcoming treatments.

Indeed, being concentrated in active ingredients, they act as a penetration vector for skincare treatments. Having a slightly acidic pH, they also re-adjust the skin's pH, while neutralising the drying effect of the limestone present in tap water used to rinse the face. To do this, soak a reusable cotton pad with the toning lotion or hydrosol suitable for your skin type, then apply it to the entire face and neck by patting, while avoiding the eye contour.
