The Effect of Tranexamic Acid Against Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Tranexamic acid has a brightening effect. In fact, it is most commonly used in the development of skin care products to soften brown spots and pigmented dark circles under the eyes. Learn more about its effect on dark circles under the eyes.

The Pigmented Dark Circles, What Are the Causes?

Pigmented dark circles appear in the form of rings located under the eyes.

They are usually brown, which is due to hyperpigmentation of the area (accumulation of melanin pigments in the uppermost layers of the epidermis). They occur mainly in people with darker skin.

Several factors are responsible for the appearance of pigment rings: genetic predisposition, repeated exposure to UV rays of the sun, certain skin diseases (eczema, etc.).

Note: Brown eye circles should not be confused with vascular eye circles, which are due to a disturbance in the microcirculation of blood and lymph in the eye area. Tranexamic acid is only effective for pigment-related dark circles.

How To Fight Dark Circles With Tranexamic Acid?

Tranexamic acid acts primarily on the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. TXA is valued for its brightening effect and softens the appearance of pigment spots such as sun spots, melasma, post-acne marks, etc. It works by inhibiting melanin synthesis as a result of UV radiation. To do this, it blocks the interaction between keratinocytes (skin cells) and melanocytes (melanin-producing cells). Therefore, this effect is also effective in the case of the problem of pigmented circles under the eyes.

Before applying a product containing tranexamic acid to the eye area, make sure that it has been tested in this area of the face. Since the effect of this active ingredient is gradual, it should be applied regularly in the morning and evening.
