The benefits of hemp oil on the beard.

Highly utilised in Europe for its medicinal properties, the hemp plant saw its production banned in France in the 1940s due to its misuse as a narcotic substance. It was not until 1990 that its cultivation, without psychoactive properties, was once again permitted. Its vegetable oil is one of the most concentrated in essential fatty acids. This richness bestows upon it regenerative, antioxidant, and strengthening virtues. Today, the varieties of hemp used in skin and hair care are listed in the public health code and are thus subject to the legal requirement of a THC level below 0.2%.

Regarding its extraction process, the substance can be obtained from the seeds in three different ways: mechanically (first cold press), via an extraction solvent, or using supercritical fluid (CO2). Depending on the method used, the yield may be more or less efficient.

Rich in omega-3, 6 and 9, the hemp oil is often included in the composition of a beard oil due to the following virtues:

• It softens the hairs.
  Beard hairs tend to be coarser than head hair. Hemp oil softens and adds shine to the hairs. It also helps to tame unruly hairs so that the entire beard appears neater and more styled;

• It strengthens the hairs and reduces their breakage.

  The fatty acids found in hemp oil increase the level of keratin, a key component of hair, making it stronger and more resilient;

• It soothes any potential irritations.

  Hemp oil also has a soothing effect on the itching that affects many bearded individuals. The omega-3 it contains allows it to regulate sebum production. As a result, it reduces the risk of dandruff development;

• It hydrates the skin and limits potential itching associated with shaving.

  Shaving tends to disrupt the hydrolipidic film and dry out the epidermis. Hemp oil is lipid-replenishing, it helps to care for the skin beneath the hair;

• It delivers a fresh and woody fragrance.
