Rose geranium essential oil

Commonly known as: Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil (INCI), Pelargonium rosae, Egyptian geranium, florist's geranium, fragrant geranium, Pelargonium asperum.
Botanical name: Pelargonium graveolens.
Extraction process: Steam distillation.
Family: Geraniaceae.
Part of the plant extracted: Leaves.
Location: Africa (Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique).
Flowering: From May until the first morning frosts (usually in October).
Provenance, origin: Egypt.
Phytochemical composition: Monoterpenols (citronellol, geraniol, linalool), terpene esters (geranyl formate, geranyl acetate, citronellyl formate), monoterpenones, sesquiterpenols, isomenthone, guaia-6,9-diene, geranyl butyrate, geranyl tiglate.
Sensorial properties: Appearance: Mobile liquid; Colour: Greenish yellow to dark green; Fragrance: Flowery, dewy, slightly sweet.
Physical characteristics: Density = 0.88-0.91; Insoluble in water; Refractive index: 1.46-1.48.

Preservation

Essential oils are sensitive to UV radiation. This is why it is advisable to keep them in an amber glass bottle, away from heat and light.

Contraindications and precautions for use

Potentially allergenic. Don’t use topically on children under 8 years of age.After consulting a doctor, women more than three months pregnant can use a diluted solution on their skin. Don’t use pure essential oils on your skin or mucous membranes. Essential oils shouldn’t be applied around or in the eyes or ears.

Important:It’s best to test essential oils before using them (put two drops on the inside of your elbow and wait at least 24 hours to see if your skin reacts.)
