How is witch hazel produced?

Hydrosol is a treatment obtained through the distillation of a part of the plant using steam. In the case of witch hazel hydrosol, it is the leaves that are distilled to extract all the properties of the plant. Being less concentrated in active ingredients, hydrosol is suitable for pregnant women.

To produce hydrosol, leaves are placed above boiling water within a sealed container. The resulting steam passes through a pipe that is immersed in cold water to induce condensation. Witch hazel hydrosol possesses astringent, antioxidant, and soothing properties. For oily skin, its purifying virtues deeply cleanse the skin and eliminate the excess sebum responsible for a shiny appearance and blackheads. It is also recommended for skin prone to irritation and redness due to its soothing properties. It alleviates discomfort associated with irritations while reducing redness. Moreover, witch hazel hydrosol tightens pores, which are generally enlarged in oily skin. The complexion then becomes even, and the skin regains its tonicity. Applying a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel hydrosol under the eyes can also help to reduce dark circles.
