INCI name:   Triethanolamine.

Function:   pH regulator, emulsifying agent, masking agent, surfactant.

Origin:   Synthetic.

Concentration allowed by the EU regulation:   Up to 2.5% in leave-on products. Do not use with nitrosing systems. Minimum purity >= 99%. Maximum secondary amine content: 0.5% for raw materials. Maximum nitrosamine content: 50 μg/kg. Store in a nitrite-free container.

Where to find it / Where they are found?:   Shaving gels/mousses, styling gels/lotions, body creams, anti-cellulite creams, face creams, sunscreen milks/creams/sprays, facial cleansing foams, aftershaves, face serums, foundations, face masks, scrubs, eye creams, shampoos, hand creams, foundation, facial cleansers, makeup removers, toners.

Health risks:   Carcinogenic in the presence of potential nitrite (formation of nitrosamines), potential allergen.

Environmental risks:   Polluting manufacturing process.
