Profile: Ruby Spots (Cherry Angiomas)

Definition: Small flat spots of approximately 2 to 4 mm in diameter, circular or oval in shape with a reddish or purplish appearance, generally non-cancerous. However, if it bleeds or changes in appearance, then this could be an early indicator of skin cancer. They most commonly appear on the torso, arms and legs, and cannot disappear on their own.
Internal and external causes: Ageing, genetic mutations, intake of certain medications (immunosuppressants), pregnancy (hormones and prolactin).
How to reduce or eliminate: Ruby spots generally do not require treatment; cosmetic surgery (electrocautery, shave excision, cryosurgery, laser treatment, etc.).
