Profile: Eyelash Loss

Definition: Greater than usual eyelash loss. Generally, two to three eyelashes fall out daily, only to regrow. Eyelashes have a short growth cycle and their average lifespan is 45 to 90 days. In some individuals, this eyelash loss can occur much more frequently.
Internal and external causes: Genetic factors, stress, age, dietary deficiencies, overly aggressive makeup removal, incorrect use of eyelash curlers, excessive eye rubbing, hormonal changes, allergic reactions to cosmetic products, and medical conditions (such as blepharitis, alopecia, hypothyroidism...).
How to reduce or eliminate: Identify the cause of eyelash loss and correct the action if possible; apply a concentrated treatment every evening, rich in nourishing and strengthening active ingredients (biotinyl-GHK, castor oil, silicon, peptides, panthenol...) to improve the robustness of the phaneres, thereby making them less brittle, and restoring their strength and resilience; consult a doctor as this could indicate a health issue.
Preventative steps to take: Always remove mascara from the eyelashes before going to sleep; avoid being too harsh during makeup removal, use gentle movements; favour a biphasic makeup remover lotion; enhance the quality of the eyelashes with treatments containing nourishing and strengthening active ingredients (castor oil, arginine, biotinyl-GHK, pea peptides...); refrain from touching or rubbing your eyelashes; use the eyelash curler before applying makeup; maintain a diet rich in vitamins A, B and E as well as omega-3.
