Aqueous extract of guarana

Commonly known as:   Paullinia Cupana Seed Extract (I.N.C.I.).

Botanical name:   Paullinia cupana.

Extraction process:   The plant material undergoes maceration in an extraction solvent (water + glycerine) at room temperature.

Family:   Sapindaceae.

Extracted part of the plant:   Seeds.

Cultivation area, origin:   Originating from the tropical rainforests of the Brazilian Amazon.

Blooming:   In September.

Origin, provenance:   Switzerland.

Phytochemical composition:   Xanthine derivatives (caffeine, theobromine, theophylline), saponins, tannins.

Sensory properties:   Appearance: Liquid; Colour: Yellow to reddish-brown; Odour: Characteristic.

Physical properties:   pH: Acidic; Density: 1.176 - 1.232 g/cm3; Soluble in water and alcohol; Recommended dosage: Between 2 and 7% in cosmetic formulations.

Concerns:   Stimulating, firming, toning, astringent, lipolytic, vasodilatory.

Effect:   All skin types, particularly mature skin; Recommended in cases of cellulitis.
