What are the opinions on arbutin acid?

Arbutin acid, also known as alpha arbutin, is a water-soluble substance with recognised brightening properties. A natural substitute for hydroquinone, it is found in cosmetic formulas for the face to reduce pigmentation spots and delay their appearance. In this article, you will find some opinions regarding this molecule.

Stéphanie SOULE, Head of Scientific Communication, shares her opinion.

"Alpha-arbutin is a molecule that owes its effectiveness to its high affinity with the active site of tyrosinase, the enzyme stimulating the synthesis of melanin in the skin. As a reminder, melanin is the pigment responsible for the brown colour; when it is produced in excess in a localised area, it results in pigmentation spots. Thus, alpha-arbutin inhibits the overproduction of melanin and fades existing spots, as well as any potential skin marks left by blemishes. Moreover, this active ingredient has an antioxidant power that helps the skin defend itself against the attacks of free radicals, highly reactive molecules that accelerate skin ageing."

Opinions on the pigmentation spot serum.

Pigmentation spots can have several causes, the most common being UV rays, skin ageing, or even a hormonal change. Thepigmentation spots serum from Typology contains 2% alpha-arbutin acid as well as lemon extract, known for its brightening properties. Here are some reviews from our consumers about it:

  • Valérie H. (29/03/2021): "Two weeks of use, I notice that the spots from my acne scars are fading, my complexion is significantly more even. An effective product that I highly recommend."

  • Charlotte G. (15/02/2021): "I've been using it for just over two weeks now. It seems to be working, I even feel like it's preventing new spots from leaving marks. It's great, but the long-term effects are yet to be seen!"

  • Laurie B. (19/05/2021): "After a month of use, several spots and scars have disappeared, I am satisfied."

  • Régine V. (30/03/2021): "The spots on my face have lightened. And it's been 3 weeks since I started using it."

  • Anne F. (27/02/2021): "After 1 month of application on blemish marks, I notice a reduction in these unsightly marks."

Thus, the arbutin acid serum helps to reduce the appearance of brown spots and particularly acne marks. We advise you to apply a few drops morning and evening to your face after it has been cleaned and dried. Then, gently massage the face and neck using circular motions. Follow this with a moisturiser suitable for your skin type. We recommend using this serum daily for at least 6 weeks in order to observe its effects.

Please note : This serum can also be applied to other parts of the body, such as the back, which is often affected by acne, or the underarms, which can darken due to repeated shaving.
