Short Description: Phthalates

Examples of ingredients:   Dibutyl Phthalate, Dimethyl Phthalate, Soy Protein Phthalate, Diethyl Phthalate, Di-2-Ethylexyl Phthalate, Diisononyl Phthalate, Cyclohexyl Phthalate, Di-n-Octyl Phthalate, Benzyl butyl Phthalate, Diisobutyl Phthalate, Bis(2-Methoxyethyl) Phthalate, Di-n-Pentyl Phthalate.

Function:   Masking agent, plasticizing agent, solvent, perfuming agent, denaturing agent, film-forming agent, hair conditioner, hair fixing agent, viscosity control agent, emollient, emulsion stabilizer.

Origin:   Synthetic.

Concentration allowed by the EU regulation:   Not regulated. Banned in Europe (Dibutyl Phthalate).

Where to find it / Where they are found?:   Hair lotions, hair serums, eaux de toilette, hydroalcoholic gels, after-shave lotions.

Health risks:   Suspected endocrine disruptor.

Additional information:   Some are classified by ECHA as carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic substances (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, benzylbutyl phthalate, diisobutyl phthalate, bis(2-methoxyethyl) phthalate, di-n-pentyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate).
