How to fill in gaps in the eyebrows?

It's not uncommon to be a bit too enthusiastic with your hair removal and end up with gaps in your eyebrow line. In this case, how can you fill them in? Learn more in this article.

Tip No.1: Use an eyebrow pencil.

The eyebrow pencil is the most favoured makeup product for eyebrows. It serves as an excellent tool for filling in gaps in the eyebrows. The eyebrow pencil can also be used to add volume to very thin eyebrows. To naturally define your eyebrows, pair the eyebrow pencil with a tinted gel that matches your skin tone. It is generally recommended to choose an eyebrow pencil shade as close as possible to the colour of your eyebrow roots. If in doubt, opt for the lighter shade for a more natural result. Here are the steps to follow when using an eyebrow pencil:

  1. Firstly, brush the fine hairs in the direction of their growth using an eyebrow brush.

  2. Next, apply the eyebrow pencil across the entire line, at the skin level. To achieve a natural finish, make light sweeping movements.

  3. Finally, gently blend with the flat of your finger and apply a setting powder to the eyebrows to secure the pencil line.

Note : An eyebrow pencil has a hold of approximately 8 hours. During the day, it may be useful to perform a minor touch-up.

Tip No. 2: Fill in the eyebrows using eyebrow ink.

Eyebrow ink is also handy for naturally concealing gaps in the eyebrow arch. It allows for the drawing of precise and defined lines, mimicking the natural hairs of the eyebrows. If you opt for a waterproof model, your makeup will hold without issues all day long. The use of eyebrow ink is both quick and simple.

  1. Cleanse your eyebrows using a damp microfibre cloth to remove any potential residues from skincare treatments.

  2. Take a clean spoolie and gently brush your eyebrows.

  3. Apply the ink, often presented in the form of a fine-tipped pen, by making small strokes on the most sparse areas of your eyebrows.

Advice : Similarly to eyebrow pencils, the ideal approach is to try and match the natural colour of your eyebrows. If in doubt, it is recommended to opt for the lighter shade to avoid hardening the features.

Tip No. 3: Resort to semi-permanent makeup.

Semi-permanent makeup, similar to a brow tattoo , is increasingly being chosen when it comes to sparse eyebrows. It involves placing pigments into the epidermis to give an impression of density to the eyebrow. It's worth noting that this technique does not require the removal of existing hairs, as the design can be done beneath the hairs. Unlike permanent eyebrow tattoos, this type of procedure gives a fairly natural result. There are several methods of semi-permanent makeup, the two most common being the microblading and the microshading.

  • Microblading : this technique involves pigmenting the epidermis using a needle to mimic eyebrow hairs. This procedure is usually carried out in two sessions spaced a few weeks apart. You can maintain the result for approximately a year and a half without needing any additional touch-ups.

  • The microshading : This is a technique similar to microblading, the aim of which is to create a shading effect behind the eyebrows. It is generally better tolerated by sensitive skin because, instead of drawing lines to mimic hairs, only small dots are made.

Tip No. 4: Consider an eyebrow transplant.

A more radical solution, eyebrow transplantation is another method to fill in eyebrow gaps. This is a surgical procedure that may require several sessions lasting from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Eyebrow transplantation involves the removal of hair follicles located at the back of the head and their transplantation into the eyebrow areas where regrowth is desired. This operation must be carried out by a professional, as it is very difficult to alter the results obtained. Therefore, it is essential that it is performed correctly.

Tip No.5: Strengthen the hair with a vegetable oil.

To naturally eliminate a gap in the eyebrows or to reshape them, it is also possible to rely on a natural approach. To strengthen the hairs of your eyebrows, you can opt for a nourishing vegetable oil, of which the castor oil is the most commonly used. By fortifying the eyebrow hairs, these vegetable oils ensure better health, and healthy hairs tend to grow faster. However, it cannot be definitively stated that these oils accelerate the growth of eyebrows.

Indeed, the belief that castor oil stimulates eyebrow growth stems from studies based on its action against alopecia, or hair loss. In these studies, it was shown that ricinoleic acid present in castor oil had an inhibitory effect on prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). Notably, this protein is approximately three times more prevalent in bald areas of the scalp than in hair-bearing areas.

She and her metabolite 15-dPGJ2 interrupt hair growth by binding to the GPR44 molecular receptor. By inhibiting prostaglandin D2, castor oil restores hair growth. Regarding eyebrow growth, however, no study has yet demonstrated the ability of castor oil to stimulate it, which is why we can only assert that this vegetable oil contributes to the strengthening of hair.
