Profile: Dry Dandruff
Definition:
Phenomenon of accelerated desquamation/regeneration of scalp cells. Dry dandruff is characterised by fine, white, flaky layers that do not stick to the scalp but fall off naturally. They typically form on a dry or normal scalp and can often be associated with itching.
Internal and external causes:
Genetic factors, medical treatment, use of unsuitable hair care products, poorly rinsed hair, stress, prolonged and repeated wearing of hats, beanies or hairstyles..., overuse of styling products, intensive use of heat appliances (hair dryers, straighteners, etc...).
How to reduce or eliminate:
Choose a gentle anti-dandruff shampoo containing antifungal ingredients (such as piroctone olamine...), soothing and anti-inflammatory components (like clary sage, yellow mandarin, bisabolol, glycocol, camphor, menthol, calendula, Ho wood...) and keratolytic agents (salicylic acid, glycolic acid...); consult a doctor if dandruff persists or worsens.
Preventative steps to take:
Limit the use of heat styling tools and styling products; adopt hair care products that are suitable for one's scalp.
