Coco Betaine: What is it?
Derived from coconut and of natural origin, coco betaine is an amphoteric surfactant. This ingredient is often used in natural skincare products in conjunction with decyl glucoside and coco glucoside.
Coco betaine is renowned for its foaming, cleansing, and thickening properties. It is compatible with other anionic, cationic, and non-ionic surfactants.
The pH of coco betaine falls between 5 and 6. Therefore, this ingredient is compatible with the skin and mucous membranes. Additionally, it has a mild bactericidal effect. It is also used to decrease the irritant potential of other surfactants.
Cocamidopropyl betaine is soluble in water, provided the following dosages are adhered to: 5% to 40%.
Currently, potential toxicity of this ingredient on humans has not yet been proven.
