Function:   Antimicrobial, preservative.

Origin:   Synthetic.

Concentration allowed by the EU regulation:   Up to 1% in finished cosmetic products.

Where to find it / Where they are found?:   Dermatological lotions, shaving foams/gels, CC creams, mascaras, styling gels/hairspray, face creams, eye creams, hair masks, aftershave balms, shampoos, sun care products.

Health risks:   Eye irritant (high).

Environmental risks:   Polluting manufacturing process (ethoxylation).
