Dry Hands

Definition: Dull hand skin, rough to the touch, sometimes exhibiting redness, and possibly experiencing itching and feelings of tightness. In severe cases, it can crack, causing the formation of fissures and sometimes bleeding. Indeed, the skin on the back of the hands is particularly thin and sensitive, and has few sebaceous glands.

Internal and external causes: Cold, wind, daily life activities, certain skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, diabetes, contact allergy, etc...), skin ageing process.

How to reduce or eliminate: Apply a moisturising hand cream several times a day, after each wash.

Preventative steps to take: Exfoliate your hands once a week; wash your hands with warm or cold water; use a mild soap for hand washing; wear gloves or mittens in cold weather; drink at least 1.5 litres of water per day; regularly coat your hands with a moisturising care product after each wash and when your hands start to dry out; dry your hands by gently patting without rubbing.
