Essential Oil of Oregano

Commonly known as: Origanum Compactum Oil (I.N.C.I.), essential oil of Wild Oregano from Morocco, Greek Oregano, Oregano with compact inflorescences, Wild Marjoram, Bastard Marjoram.
Botanical name: Origanum compactum.
Extraction process: Complete distillation through steam distillation.
Family: Lamiaceae.
Part of the plant extracted: Flowering tops.
Location: Originating from Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Asia.
Flowering: From July to the end of September.
Provenance, origin: Morocco.
Phytochemical composition: Carvacrol, thymol, gamma-terpinene, paracymene, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-terpinene, linalool, myrcene, tannins, phenolic acids (hydroxycinnamic acid), flavonoids, linalool, limonene.
Sensorial properties: Appearance: Clear, mobile liquid; Colour: Light yellow to yellowish-brown; Odour: Phenolic, characteristic of carvacrol, sharp, warm, with spicy notes.
Physical characteristics: Density = 0.905 - 0.950.
Benefits: Tonic, antibacterial, fragrant, purifying, soothing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, astringent, sebum-regulating.
Concerns: All skin types, particularly combination to oily skin and those prone to blemishes; All hair types, especially oily scalps.

Method of Preservation

Essential oils are sensitive to UV radiation. That's why it's recommended to store them in an amber glass bottle, away from heat.

Contraindications, Usage Precautions

Potentially allergenic. When applied topically,do not usein childrenunder 6 years oldand inpregnant and/or breastfeeding women.

Never use it undiluted on the skin. Always use it well diluted for topical application (up to 20% for localised use on a small area).

Some natural compounds found in this essential oil, such as linalool, may pose an allergy risk for certain sensitive individuals when the essential oil is incorporated into a cosmetic composition (according to the 7th Amendment of the European Directive on cosmetic products (2003/15/EC)).

As a general rule, always perform an application test of your preparation in the crook of your elbow, at least 48 hours before using it.
