Dull Hair
Definition:
Hair that lacks lustre and does not reflect light but absorbs it because the scales that make up the hair are too far apart, resulting in damaged hair.
Internal and external causes:
Pollution, smoking, extreme temperatures, tight hairstyles, unsuitable treatments, regular wearing of hats/bonnets/helmets, stress, dietary deficiencies (in iron, fatty acids, vitamin B...), dry hair, intensive use of heated styling devices, frequent bleaching, exposure to the sun without protection.
How to reduce or eliminate:
Adopt a shampoo, conditioner and mask rich in emollients, humectants and nutrients to hydrate and nourish the hair; finish washing the hair with a cold water rinse to tighten the cuticles.
Preventative steps to take:
Protecting hair from the sun; not overusing hair dyes; thoroughly rinsing to effectively remove all product residues; gently drying hair with a towel; limiting the use of hair dryers; not brushing hair too aggressively; adopting a balanced diet; avoiding harsh shampoo formulas containing silicone or sulphate; using a heat protector on the hair; regularly detangling the hair.
